Ron Sims is member of a number of arts organisations, and plays an active role within many of them.

2D3D (member)
A group of 10 artist/lecturers in adult education have set up this rolling programme of exhibitions to stimulate their own work and that of their students. Most of the invited members are based in the Harwich area of Essex and wish to show their work more widely.

Art Workers Guild
Ron has been elected as a member of the Art Workers Guild (Oct 2011). The Guild is a society of artists, craftsmen and designers with a common interest in the authenticity, interaction, development and distribution of creative skills.
Potential new members are makers of distinction or merit in their field, who are proposed and seconded by members of the guild and elected on the basis of a portfolio submitted to the General Committee - the ceiling on membership is 290.
Recent and past members of the Guild include architects William Lethaby and Sir Edwin Lutyens; artists Andrew Tanser and Martha Winter; designers C R Ashbee and William Morris; illustrators Arthur Rackham and Walter Crane, and architectural glass artist, Sally Pollitzer.
The Art Workers Guild is based at 6 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London - and holds public exhibitions and events.

Colchester Art Society (member and chair of selection panel)
One of Britain's most celebrated art societies - founded in 1946 by a group of artists based in and around Colchester and the Colchester School of Art. In a period of renewed optimism after the devastation of the war, these young artists shared in the general hope for a brighter future, and formed a society where professional and talented aspiring artists could exhibit together.
Among the earliest members were John Nash, Cedric Morris, Henry Collins, Roderic Barrett, Joyce Pallot, Reg Hazell (head of the School of Art) and Sylvia St. George. The first exhibition was held in Colchester Castle, showing the work of 37 artists. It was selected by a committee of five, purely on merit, regardless of whether the artist was professional or amateur, celebrated or unknown.
Today, after more than 60 years, the Colchester Art Society still provides opportunities for exhibition, debate and information.

Digby Gallery (member and co-selector)
The Digby Gallery is at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester. A selection panel of three choose on merit a six-monthly programme of artists, presenting a stimulating series of shows. The selection panel is made up of Ron Sims; artist Linda Adcock, who also studied at the Royal Academy Schools; and the gallery organiser, Alice White. They work to build an exhibitions programme that reflects the best contemporary work of artists based in and around Colchester, as well as East Anglia and beyond.

Gainsborough's House Print Workshop (member and committee member)
Based in the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough in Sudbury, Suffolk, this print workshop is an open-access studio available to anyone interested in printmaking. Ron runs an annual, 30-week printmaking (evening) course for adults; teaching a variety of printmaking techniques.
As a member of Gainsborough's House Printworkshop Ron produces his own work at the studio and takes part in the regular exhibitions programme. Ron is a member of the voluntary committee that organises members' exhibitions, visits and fundraising events.

The Printmakers Council (member)
The Printmakers Council was founded in 1965 to promote the art of printmaking and the work of contemporary printmakers. It continues to pursue this aim by organising a programme of exhibitions in London, throughout the UK and worldwide. These exhibitions show both traditional skills and innovatory printmaking techniques.
The PMC has a slide index and plan-chest archive of PMC members' work, which is regularly consulted by galleries, exhibition organisers and potential buyers. Membership is open to all printmakers, students, interested groups and individuals.
Recent PMC exhibitions have been mounted at The Natural History Museum; The Pump House Gallery, Battersea; The Elizabethan Gallery, Wakefield and in Paris at Musée-Atelier Adzak.
PMC Workshops have recently been organised for members at Artichoke Printmaking in south-east London; of the UK's leading professional fine art print workshops; and at the Pitshanger Manor and Gallery in west London.
Ron is currently (February 2009) planning his applications to the PMC's future programme of overseas exhibitions.

The Royal Academy Schools Alumni Association (member and member of the RASA council)
The Royal Academy Schools Alumni Association exists for past students of the RA Schools. At present, it has over 600 members and is an active body providing many benefits. Founded nearly fifty years ago as the Reynolds Club, the RASA was created to maintain links between the Royal Academy Schools and its past students; for the benefit of the alumni, the Schools, and the Royal Academy.
RASA has its own constitution and a council made up of executive members and council members. Recently RASA considered joining in with the Friends of the RA, to strengthen both organisations within the body of the Royal Academy.
